Twelve-year-old Nancy Crumpet lives above a bakery and her life is a delightful mix of flour, salt, and love. Yet her mind is brimming with questions no one can answer: Why did her birth parents disappear? Why can she speak with the sky? And why must she keep her mysterious birthmark hidden?

Everything is about to change when the Scareground returns to Greenwich. Nancy is convinced it holds the answers to her parents’ disappearance. Nancy and her best friend Arthur Green meet the fair’s spooky owner, Skelter, and discover a world full of dark magic and mystery. Nancy must confront her greatest fears to get to the truth. But is she ready for all the secrets the Scareground will reveal?

Review

Reading Scareground was a thrilling but unique experience in itself. Even though the book is the best for middle grade readers, I LOVED reading it. I can say without a doubt that readers of all age are going to have a ride reading this book.

The author is able to create an air of mystery and spookiness from the beginning itself. The plotline is exquisitely weaved together that ensures to keep the reader hooked right to the story. There are no loopholes and everything connects as story progresses.

Angela’s writing style adds to the charm of story as she manages to build images in the reader’s mind through her words. In the process, she doesn’t make the writing complicated – that is hard. Simple but impactful words.

Nancy and Arthur’s characters are super adorable. There is enough depth that author has been able to sketch out for both of them. Different abilities and powers give them an edge. All the side characters are given their own space. I loved following Nancy and Arthur in their adventure. The story is a celebration of friendship and bravery as our leads go on the adventure ❤

I feel that author could have dived deeper regarding Nancy’s powers and I hope that she would give us more insights into it in her other books.

I recommend this book for your Halloween TBR and its an amazing start for your kids in the genre.
